Banff 2000

The company is engaged in a long-term collaboration with The Banff Centre for the Arts in Canada and Theatre Calgary. A series of workshops are bringing together Calgary actors with the nomads to share approaches, techniques and methods of performance. The first workshop period began an exploration of the novel Sick Heart River by John Buchan. Future workshops will develop the work on this text towards a large-scale performance piece for 2002.

The first workshops led to the performance in Banff of a series of fragments inspired by Buchan's novel. The performers were Louise Barrett, Paola Cavallin, Caroline Cave, Claudia Hope, Paul Huntley-Thomas, Kevin Kruchkywich, Ryan Luhning, Jean Pagni and Ester Purves-Smith. Luke Dixon, Ian Prinsloo and Jane Turner directed.

"Being in Banff was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. It was a performer's heaven; an arts centre nestled between snow-capped mountains, pine forests and breath-taking beauty. The facilities were incredible and the atmosphere and drive in workshops was liberating. Without the domestic hazards of day to day living, a home life to think about and an arduous journey to rehearsals, I felt my mind and body to be the most instinctively reactive. I can't imagine woking under better conditions - I LOVED the place and can't wait to go back."
Louise Barrett, actor.
