Luke Dixon's book Play-Acting has been published by Methuen.

This is a book of theatrical beginnings for actors, teachers and directors. Over thirty years, Luke Dixon has devised workshops that are at the heart of contemporary theatre practice. Developed in dramatic contexts around the world, the multitude of workshops included here is aimed at guiding actors to many different goals.

The dizzying breadth of exercises and games starts you off on all the processes, from voice warm-ups and body-work though to interacting with space and finding a narrative. Whether from the starting-point of Japanese Butoh, Shakespearian verse-speaking, children's games or African rhythms, this book extends the range of an actor's experience and imagination. It also enables drama teachers to lead a practical programme of workshops and bring together groups to explore ideas and themes; create characters and inhabit theatrical worlds.
