Port Elizabeth. 6 September
We are busy planning the next year of work - into 2000 and
beyond.
Noel Greig arrives in South Africa this month to workshop
the first draft of his new play. He will be joined in October by Hannah Buvik
and Jean Pagni, who will also be working with 'Rise and
Shine' and 'Tambora' developing African performance elements for
the forthcoming production of 'Macbeth'.
Looks Matoto has begun
work on a new play to be co-produced with 'Rise and Shine' next
year. The production will open at the Grahamstown Festival in July.
Reviews of the company's performances of 'As You Like It' in South
Africa have been excellent.
In the East Province Herald, Brett Adkins wrote:
'A cleverly-crafted and delicious interpretation...full of energy and
simple yet effective staging and costuming, this is everyman's
Shakespeare.'
Mike Crampton in the Grahamstown Festival paper Cue, said:
'The story is conjured with wit, irony and imagaination, and it is a
joy to hear Shakespeare's words well spoken....a thoroughly
pleasurable production.'
The company's visit to Canada next year is now confirmed. A two
week residency at the Banff Centre for the Performing Arts will also
see perfomances of 'Macbeth' at Theatre Calgary.
